![]() Dairy-FreeMilk is one of the most common food allergens in children. Cow's milk contains at least 20 protein components that may cause an antibody response. The three components of cow's milk that cause dietary reactions are casein protein, whey protein, and lactose sugar. Casein and whey are considered more likely to cause true allergies, while lactose causes a well-known intolerance in many adults (and some children) due to the body's lack of an enzyme known as lactase. A milk free diet can be achieved through careful selection of foods that are casein free and lactose free. For more help in maintaining a dairy free diet, check out the Dairy Free Cooking suggestions in the Allergy Free Recipe portion of the store.
